The Business Visa categories include Long Term Business Visa/Entrepreneur, Active Investor, and Employees of Relocating Business.

Long term Business Visa/Entrepreneur Category

The Long Term Business Visa (LTBV)/Entrepreneur category allows an applicant to establish a business, purchase or make a substantial investment in a business in New Zealand, for at least two years, before applying for residence through the Entrepreneur Category.

Applicants applying for a LTBV must have a detailed business plan, evidence of proposed investment in New Zealand, evidence of business experience related to the proposed investment. Applicants must also show evidence of funds and most importantly evidence how the proposed investments will be of benefit to New Zealand.

Active Investor Category

The Active Investor category is designed to link investor migrants with New Zealand businesses and enable them to actively contribute both financial and human capital to the New Zealand economy and is divided into three categories:

1. Global Investors;
2. Professional Investors; and,
3. General Investors.

The Government has set a cap of 1000 places under this policy (around 300 applications). This quota will be primarily filled by Global and Professional Investors, with General Investors taking the remaining places.

Employees of Relocating Business Category

The Employees of Relocating Category offers overseas businesses an opportunity to relocate their business to New Zealand along with their key staff. Employees of relocating businesses may move to New Zealand, if they are the key employee of that business, such as a Chief Executive.

Initially, the INZ may approve in principle for the key employees application for residence and grant a temporary multiple entry Work Visa or Permit. This allows the employee to stay in New Zealand for two years to work on the relocation of that business.

At any time during the two year period the key employee may provide evidence that the business has relocated to New Zealand. They will then be granted residence. Their residence permit will be subject to the fulfilment of certain conditions under the category.
